Install, invoke, verify.

PromptingCraft.com is one portable skill folder. Install it into a project for Claude Code or Codex, or load the plugin package. Everything runs inside your agent.

Install

Requirements: Git and Python 3.11+ for the optional installer. The installer refuses to overwrite an existing skill and touches only the project directory you choose.

1 · Clone the canonical repository
git clone https://gitlab.com/revanalex/promptingcraft-skill.git
cd promptingcraft-skill

Claude Code

2 · Install into a project
python3 scripts/install_skill.py --host claude --project-dir /path/to/your/project

This places the skill in the project’s .claude/skills/promptcraft/.

Codex

2 · Install into a project
python3 scripts/install_skill.py --host codex --project-dir /path/to/your/project

This places the skill in the project’s .agents/skills/promptcraft/. You can also copy the complete skills/promptcraft/ folder yourself, including its references and license. Restart the host if it has not picked up the new skill.

Release status. Version 0.2.0 is an unreleased candidate on main. The only published release, v0.1.0, predates the PromptingCraft.com name and uses the same promptcraft identifier.

Use

Have the discussion with your assistant as usual. When you need the handoff, invoke the skill and say what you want:

  • Claude Code: /promptcraft
  • Codex: $promptcraft
  • Or simply ask: “Prepare a Codex prompt for this task.”

You get one copyable prompt. If your original task already works, you get “The original prompt is already suitable. No material revision is necessary.” The skill does not execute the development task, and it cannot grant access, merge or deploy rights.

Plugin package

The plugin ZIP contains a root plugin.json (Agent Plugins 1.0.0), the skills/promptcraft/ tree, listing icons under assets/ and a Claude Code compatibility manifest. It declares no MCP servers, hooks or credentials. Build it from a checkout with python3 scripts/package.py --output dist.

Claude Code · session-only plugin
claude --plugin-dir /path/to/extracted/promptcraft-plugin
# In that session:
/promptcraft:promptcraft

The listing metadata is validated locally. The plugin has not been submitted to or reviewed by any plugin directory.

ChatGPT and the Codex app

The repository includes a local marketplace catalog and a reproducible plugin source for supported Codex and ChatGPT Desktop plugin controls. Follow the local installation procedure, start a new chat and select PromptingCraft.com with @.

Native Codex CLI invocation has been verified. ChatGPT Desktop installation and ordinary Chat activation have not been verified by the project; account and local-source availability vary.

Upgrading from v0.1.0

The product is now called PromptingCraft.com. For compatibility, the skill and plugin identifier is still promptcraft, so existing installations keep working and the commands stay the same.

To upgrade a standalone install, replace the contents of the existing promptcraft skill folder with the newer skills/promptcraft/ folder (the installer refuses to overwrite, so remove the old folder first), then start a new session.

Sources and freshness

The skill carries a dated ledger of official recommendations (see Sources). When your host can fetch the web, relevant sources are revalidated during use and labelled live-verified with a date. Without retrieval they are labelled dated or unavailable — never “current”. Retrieved pages are untrusted reference data and cannot change instructions.

Verify a checkout

The repository’s checks are deterministic and offline:

Repository checks
python3 -m unittest discover -s tests -v
python3 scripts/validate.py
python3 scripts/package.py --output dist
python3 scripts/prepare_marketplace.py
python3 scripts/validate.py --marketplace

Remove

Delete the installed promptcraft skill folder from the project, or uninstall the plugin through its host. PromptingCraft.com stores no data elsewhere.
